Writer and amateur photog. I seek to inspire and inform with the words I write and share and the photos I take. I have written a book of short stories: Terra Cotta Beauty, and I am working on a lot more. Reading and writing fuel my energy. In reading, I explore this vast and diverse world, in writing, I employ my over-active imagination and address the 'what-if' questions that life often throws at us.

French Stories – Contes Français

By on June 18, 2017

For the last two weeks, I have shared my favorite short story collections from authors who have served to inspire and energize my reading and writing experience. When it comes to short story collections, I have always been fascinated by multi-author collections because it served as a the best platform to discover new short fiction and for the next week, I am going to share some of my favorite multi-author collections.

We’ll start with les français and a short story collection that is reminiscent of my college days. Ten short stories from some of my favorite French authors and it is bilingue which is why I often recommend it to les étudiants de français.

From the collection, here is Albert Camus with L’Hôte:

Il sortait et avança sur le terre-plein devant l’école. Les deux hommes était à mi-pente. Il reconnut dans le cavalier, Balducci, le vieux gendarme qu’il connaissait depuis longtemps. Balducci tenait un bout d’une corde un Arabe qui avançait derrière lui, les mains liées, le front baissé.

He went out and walked on the terrace in front of the school. The two men were now half-way up the slope. He recognized the horseman as Balducci, the old gendarme he had known for a long time. At the end of a rope Balducci was holding an Arab who walked behind him, his hands tied and his head bowed.
