Coming to Small and Big Screens in October!

By on September 28, 2012

The TV remake of the 1980s movie – Steel Magnolias – will premiere on Lifetime TV network for US audiences on October 7.

Featuring a number of names which need no introduction (Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodard) as well as a couple of newcomers. Fellow Nigerian Adepero Oduye recreates the role of Annelle Dupruy (played by Daryl Hannah in the movie version). We first saw Adepero in the Broadway musical Fela! and she has been sizzling audiences ever since. Condola Rashad plays the fragile Shelby (played by Julia Roberts in the the movie version). If her name sounds familiar, it is because she is the daughter of everyone’s favorite TV mom – Phylicia Rashad. Condola was actually born while her mom was playing Clare Huxtable on TV, so that kind of makes some of us feel pretty ancient. This is one we should definitely catch, judging by the preview. We look forward to watching it again and again on rerun land.

And in other news, Tyler Perry makes his debut as Alex Cross – the character created by author James Patterson and made famous by old time favorite Morgan Freeman – this October in Alex Cross. He shares the screen with the enchanting Cicely Tyson and Lost alum Matthew Fox who crosses over to the dark side and plays the bad guy.
